Looking for a hands-on role that makes a difference?
At SMS Environmental, we don’t just maintain water systems — we protect people’s health and keep environments safe from Legionella and other water hygiene risks. If you’re ready to begin your journey as a Trainee Water Treatment Engineer, with full training and support to help you succeed, we’d love to welcome you to the team.
What will I be doing?
You’ll be out on the road, visiting a variety of client sites — from hospitals and schools to commercial and industrial settings — making sure their water systems are compliant, clean, and safe.
Your day-to-day will include:
- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), sampling, flushing, disinfecting, and chemical treatment of water systems
- Performing remedial works, tank cleans, and chlorination
- Ensuring compliance with ACOP L8, HSG274, and other water hygiene regulations
- Recording and reporting site activities accurately using company systems
- Spotting and reporting system issues before they become bigger problems
- Representing SMS Environmental professionally with clients on-site
What do I need to be successful?
We’re looking for someone who:
- Communicates clearly and professionally with clients and colleagues
- Is willing to learn, take guidance, and build confidence working both independently and as part of a team
- Can manage their time well and follow instructions
- Holds a full UK driving licence (or is working towards one, if applicable)
- Is able to pass Disclosure and Barring Service clearance (Enhanced DBS check)
Bonus points if you’ve got a knack for problem-solving and love a job that keeps you moving and learning.
