Job Role & Summary of Responsibilities
We are seeking a reliable and safety-conscious HGV Class 2 Driver / Waste Operative to join our busy team at the steel works. This is a dual-purpose role requiring a skilled driver who is also willing to be "hands-on" with waste management operations. You will be responsible for the efficient collection and transport of industrial waste materials across the site and to external disposal points, as well general site operational tasks including mobile plant operations and housekeeping.
Key Tasks
• Driving & Logistics: Safely operate various HGV Class 2 vehicles, Loading shovel and FLT within the confines of a busy steel production operation.
• Waste Collection: Manage the safe collection of industrial and commercial wastes from various production departments on site.
• Manual Operations: Assist with all tasks related to the management of waste on site, including but not limited to loading/unloading of skips, securing loads, manual site clearance, housekeeping.
• Compliance: Ensure all regularity and company procedures are strictly followed, including Tacho compliance, Daily checks, wheel torquing, Mobile plant checks.
• Health & Safety: Strictly adhere to company and site-specific safety protocols, including wearing full PPE, reporting of incidents and near misses and ensuring safety documentation is kept up to date.
• Maintenance: Perform basic vehicle checks (fluids, tires, lights) and ensure the vehicles are kept in a clean and roadworthy condition
• General: A can-do professional attitude, support the Biffa site supervisor as required to deliver a quality service to the customer.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Requirement Description
Licence Valid UK HGV Class 2 (Category C) Licence.
CPC & Digi Card Up-to-date Driver CPC Qualification and Digital Tachograph card.
Experience Minimum 1–2 years of Class 2 driving experience, preferably in an industrial or construction setting.
Physical Fitness Ability to perform manual handling tasks and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Safety Mindset A "Safety First" attitude with the ability to spot hazards in a high-risk environment.
Desirable Attributes
• Previous experience operating Skip motor.
• Experience working within the steel or heavy manufacturing industry.
• A forklift or telehandler license.
