ABOUT YOU
The position requires a highly motivated and reliable individual who thrives in a fast-paced laboratory environment. You will be comfortable working on your feet throughout the shift, following processes accurately and working efficiently as part of a busy operational team.
You may already have some laboratory experience or be looking to begin your career within a scientific environment. We are particularly interested in candidates with a practical mindset, strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
Required skills and experience:
Good general standard of education in Science, English and Maths
Some laboratory experience would be advantageous, although full training will be provided
Ability to follow instructions, SOPs and laboratory procedures accurately
Good organisational skills with strong attention to detail
Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
Good IT literacy skills
Flexible and reliable approach to work
Comfortable working in a physically active laboratory role
Experience within food, microbiology or production environments would be advantageous
Science degree preferred but not essential
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
To perform the role and responsibilities of a Laboratory Technician within a busy food microbiology laboratory environment, supporting microbiological testing processes and ensuring the efficient day-to-day running of laboratory operations.
You will support a range of laboratory activities including sample preparation, plating, incubation and general laboratory housekeeping, all in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).
This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing laboratory team in Derby within a highly regulated food testing environment.
Shift Pattern:
Key activities:
Prepare food samples for microbiological testing
Carry out sample dilution and plating activities
Support microbiological analysis using standard laboratory techniques
Follow SOPs and aseptic techniques throughout all laboratory processes
Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation
Support incubation and sample processing activities
Maintain high standards of housekeeping within the laboratory
Support quality control and quality assurance activities
Operate laboratory equipment safely and effectively
Work collaboratively with colleagues to support efficient laboratory operations
Adhere to all laboratory health & safety procedures and compliance requirements
