THE ROLE 
As a Junior Buyer you will be at the core of our business, developing and delivering commercial and profitable ranges for our brand. You will work closely with the design team to develop new product ranges seasonally, ensuring that the business strategy is delivered effectively and on time.  

 

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING  

Trade: 

  • Demonstrates a full understanding of trade, confidently presenting best and worst, identifying opportunities and concerns on cover. 
  • Takes responsibility for managing the team to ensure weekly comp shops are completed. 
  • Conducts weekly review of buying KPIs such as BIM, return rates, cost price reductions, publishing, and intake targets. 
  • Takes ownership of buying their range with support of a buyer. 
  • Works with merchandising on seasonal SWOT analysis and department lessons learnt. 
  • Is fully aware of the department’s KPIs including sub cat performance. 

Creative: 

  • Generates new creative ideas to better both the business and department. 
  • Works alongside design to develop the range and to ensure trends are covered. 
  • Generates ideas to support department strategy through product, studio and VM. 

Sage: 

  • Has an overview of Sage and how to find supplier information and pricing if needed. 

Sign off: 

  • Leads sign off selection with Buyer. 
  • Presents at sign off meeting. 

Reports: 

  • Understands best sellers and newness ROS reports. 
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of new reactions and hit rate reporting. 
  • Understands intake tracker and framework. 

Product Development: 

  • Shares ownership with buyer to product development for the category. 
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of category fabrics, their compositions, wights, minimum wage increases and fabric prices. 
  • Leads design meetings with Buyer and designer. 
  • Manages AB with chasing in development. 
  • Ensures product development is briefed with supplier capabilities and capacities in mind. 

Sample Management: 

  • Takes accountability for effective sample management. 
  • Manages development samples. 

Fits: 

  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of fitting and technical terminology. 

Supplier Management: 

  • Attends weekly supplier meetings and monthly/annual development trips. 
  • Addresses any pressing issues in the critical path, advises solutions and makes commercial decisions. 
  • Works with buyer to ensure correct fabrics/blocks are sourced to meet target prices. 
  • Oversees management of cost price negotiations. 

 

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Proven experience working within a Buying department and managing categories independently 
  • Ability to understand trade reports and how to make relevant product recommendations to maximise commercial opportunities. 
  • Experience in range building and presenting collection to internal and external stakeholders 
  • Strong numerical skills used for negotiation and trading 
  • An understanding of current economic and the impacts of potential threats and competitors 
  • Knowledge of the manufacturing process and technical terms, sourcing, and negotiation process.
