Company Shop Group, the UK’s leading redistributor of surplus stock (and proud member of the Biffa family), are searching for a dynamic Head of Health and Safety.

When it comes to health and safety, our purpose is clear; to continually reduce the likelihood and severity of workplace harm. The role of the Head of Health and Safety is to work as part of the Biffa H&S leadership team and the CSG leadership team, providing professional guidance and support to the business, working closely with senior stakeholders in a pro-active and collaborative way.

This is a hybrid role, where regular onsite presence at our Wentworth Head Office is essential, but regular travel will be required to support our retail superstores and staff shops, community shops and distribution centres on a national basis, and attend regular H&S leadership meetings.

What You’ll Do:

  • Design and implement, with the Company Shop Leadership team, performance-stretching and relevant company H&S plans and the annual Balanced Business Plan (BBP) supporting the achievement of its objectives and KPI targets.
  • Provide a high quality ‘Business-Partner’ style service designed to provide effective leadership, advice and guidance at a strategic, tactical and operational level within the company.
  • Lead, manage and motivate a small H&S team within the company, ensuring they are competent to carry out their roles and deliver an effective service.
  • Actively support and steer adherence to Company and Biffa Group H&S standards facilitating high levels of compliance across business operations
  • Lead, coordinate and implement company (or Group as required) H&S continuous improvement projects / programmes to reduce the potential for adverse events and drive continuous improvement in H&S performance across the company.
  • Lead and coordinate the development of H&S risk identification and control arrangements (with effective tools) which are suitable and sufficient for Company Shop Group activities
  • Work as part of the Biffa H&S Leadership team, contributing to the development and maintenance of company H&S policies, standards and associated documents ensuring they are fit for purpose, fully understood and implemented.
  • Ensure a suite of impactful H&S communication materials are produced to support the attainment of company H&S improvement projects.
  • Establish, implement, and maintain a company H&S performance monitoring programme providing the Leadership team with intelligent analysis, reports to enable and inform positive and proactive interventions.

What You’ll Bring:

  • A NEBOSH General Certificate (essential), with ambition to progress to Level 6.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Proven ability to influence and collaborate at all levels.
  • A proactive, problem-solving mindset with strong analytical skills.
  • Full UK driving license and willingness to travel nationally.
