Vulnerable children in the UK need your help.

Wherever you work in the Action for Children family, you'll be helping to change the lives of the most vulnerable children in the UK.

Last year, we helped more than 688,000 children and families across the UK. From direct work in communities to national campaigning, we are focused on making sure every child has a safe and happy childhood, and the foundations they need to thrive.

Why Action for Children?

Working here is more than a job. Everyone in the Action for Children family is passionate about protecting and supporting children. It's the sense of purpose that drives us every single day. Because we know that, when we work together, we can make a huge difference to bring lasting improvements to vulnerable children's lives.

A bit about the role

Space 4 U is a specialist service working with children and young people aged 5-18 years living in Derbyshire, who are impacted by someone else's substance misuse. We offer 1:1 interventions to the children and young people we support based on an assessment of need. We also offer some group work.

As a Family Support Practitioner, you will provide support to children, young people, and families by agreeing and directly delivering interventions to enable positive and agreed outcomes to be achieved, in accordance with organisational policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.  This is a part-time role between Monday to Friday, occasional late night and weekend work may be required depending on the needs of the service.

How you'll help to create brighter futures

We are looking for a Family Support Practitioner to join our team working across Derbyshire. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience and personal development within a supportive team.

You'll make a difference by:

  • Working in the team to deliver the interventions for children and families.
  • Working collaboratively with parents/carers and children.
  • Providing children and families with information and skills to help them support their needs through a variety of challenges.
  • Empowering families to make positive changes.

Let's talk about you.

  • Previous experience working with children aged 5 to 18 and families.
  • NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent is desirable.
  • Knowledge and experience to demonstrate your commitment to safeguarding children and young people.
  • Confidence to conduct 1-2-1 sessions and group work.
  • Good communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Willingness to be part of a team and multi-agency working.
  • Flexibility as some occasional evening and weekend work is required.
  • Access to a transport is essential as you'll need to be able to travel to schools, homes, and other settings across Derbyshire.
