East Midlands Airport - Cargo
4 on, 4 off (2 days, 2 nights), 12 hours shifts
Responsible for the day-to-day safe and efficient operation of cargo operations while ensuring customer service standards and contractual services are met.

• Leadership;
- Management responsibility over multiple teams.
- Assignment of tasks to your team members.
- Reporting and applying Absence Management processes
- Manage your team’s breaks, ensuring consistent levels of operational service.
- Monitor your team’s uniform and PPE standards
• Safety;
- Promoting a Safety-First culture
- Ensure correct use of safety equipment (including PPE) within your teams.
- Ensuring all incidents, near misses, and unsafe acts or conditions are reported via SMT and addressed with your teams immediately.
- Promote reporting through Swissport’s Safety Management Tool.
- Promote and maintain a tidy workplace.
• Communication;
- Develop an open culture by managing staff performance, and providing constructive feedback.
- Conduct briefings with the Operational team at the start of shift to understand and plan resources to meet all operational requirements.
- Update team on operational updates and requirements throughout the shift, ensuring their understanding of levels of priority for workloads.
- Ensure all safety notices, read & signs, and policy and procedure updates are communicated to Team Leaders during shift briefings.
• Performance;
- Familiarise yourself with Corporate Ground Operations Manual and Cargo Handling Manual.
- Ensure you have the correct equipment ready to complete your tasks.
- Complete tasks in full, and ensure all equipment is correctly stowed after each activity.
- Maintain relationships with Customers and Airport Authorities.
- Ensure airport and airline policies are adhered to by your teams.
• Training, Coaching and Mentoring;
- Coaching and mentoring to increase knowledge and experience within the team.
- Management oversight of new team members, promoting a buddy system.
- Resource planning to ensure scheduled training and eLearning is completed.
• Reporting;
- Report all incidents through the Safety Management Reporting Tool, and the Swissport Hotline is contacted where applicable.
- Conduct and document thorough incident investigations and the implementation of corrective measures within a timeframe adequate to the nature of the incident.
- Plan and conduct investigations, and disciplinary hearings where required, for all incidents, accidents, and all incidents of misconduct.
- Report all irregularities to the relevant stakeholders and the appropriate level of management.
- Report facility faults, breakdowns, and damages to contractors.
- Report and promote positive behaviours and acts through the Safety Management Tool and Swissport reward schemes.
- Escalates decisions that require approval to deviate from Swissport or local procedures to the Operations Manager or Station Manager.
• Quality and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Swissport GOM, CHM and other policies and procedures.
- Maintain high standards for quality, health & safety, environmental and security.
• Any other duties that may be reasonably requested by management
- Effectively manages staff time to increase productivity and reduce dependence on overtime
- Ensures applicable safety and quality standards are met
- Maintains as well as up-dates company’s and customer manuals and documentation
- Develops and maintains good relations with customers and airport authorities
- Find solutions to conflicts and irregularities
- Ensure compliance with company Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and policies
- Ensure deployment of the Corporate QHSE Manual
- Ensure all Swissport employees are familiarize with the Code of Conduct. It applies to all employees of the entire Swissport Group
- Monitor compliance with Swissport’s standard procedures (e.g. through regular inspections)
- Ensure safety rules are observed by all colleagues, subcontractors and visitors
Qualifications
Qualifications and Competencies
- Preferred, but not essential High School diploma or higher
- Preferred, but not essential Minimum of 5 years experience at Supervisory level
- Thorough working knowledge of Cargo, Warehouse and Ramp processes
- Effective leadership, organisational and communication skills, consistent with a very busy 24/7 Operation
- Excellent knowledge of the Operation Office function
- Good working knowledge of PC systems and Microsoft Office
- Customer focus and quality awareness with high standards of quality and service level goals
- Strong resource management and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in inclement weather
