Job overview

This is a fantastic opportunity for a Registered Nurse, Social Worker or Occupational Therapist to join the CAMHS Day Service.

The specialist day provision is a relatively new part of the CAMHS service, opening its doors in October 2022, and provides intensive packages of person centred interventions to young people who may be at risk of admission to a Tier 4 inpatient unit without increased support.  The successful applicant will work as part of a team to help manage complex mental health needs.  You will be involved in the assessment, formulation and interventions offered as well as liaison with other agencies.

You will be part of the regular team clinical supervision processes as well as being able to access regular and frequent individual supervision.

There is a lot of scope for personal and professional development within the service.

The Trust offers a robust preceptorship package for newly qualified staff.

We are looking for a Registered Professional who will improve children and young people’s mental health, providing  support and intervention to young people and families as part of their care plan.

This will involve working with children and young people who are experiencing high levels of distress and during periods of crisis.

The role will also involve interventions to support recovery and relapse prevention. In accordance with national and local priorities, clinical guidelines, the post holder will be responsive to the needs and views of local children, to ensure the highest level of clinical evidence based practice within the resources available

The post holder will be supported to develop knowledge and skills in working systemically with children and families within our experienced multi-disciplinary teams.

The post will involve working as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the delivery of evidence-based interventions to children and their families.

CAMHS is part of the CYP-IAPT initiative and the post holder will use Routine Outcome Measures to influence and evaluate all interventions offered.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To work within a multi-disciplinary CAMHS team, providing support services to children, adolescent and their families/carers with complex needs.

To organise own workload for a range of complex cases.

Seeing young people and families in order to carry out mental health assessments, plan and provide community based interventions in a variety of settings, eg, the specialist day service, home, education, GP surgery and other primary care settings.

To take an assertive outreach approach in order to help young people maintain a level of mental health support that can benefit their emotional wellbeing/mental health.

To undertake ongoing risk assessment of harm to self or others, risk of vulnerability, and complex health and social care assessment.

To monitor the effects of prescribed medication and to report any side effects to the responsible medical officer in accordance with local Trust policy and the NMC administration of medications policy.

To feedback outcomes of assessment and intervention to relevant CAMHS colleagues in regular clinical discussion, and directly to the nominated senior clinician in managerial supervision.

To promote a wider understanding of mental health issues relating to children and adolescents amongst families, referrers and other professionals.

To facilitate group work with service users.

To develop and maintain good relationships and clear lines of communication with other professional agencies and departments.  The provide advice, training and support to services in key partner agencies where appropriate and act as a key liaison person.

To contribute towards the development of specialist team protocols and propose changes to the working practice of the team.  Participate in organised service activities, ie allocation, team meetings, case discussions in order to contribute towards service development.

To participate in meetings and reviews to support children, young people and their families in planning to meet the needs of the service user.
